Transportation Tips

When traveling to Cabo Verde, our beautiful archipelago knowing that it consists of several

islands, transportation is an important aspect to consider. Here are 10 transportation tips for

getting around Cabo Verde:

Domestic Flights: If you plan to visit multiple islands, domestic flights are the most convenient

way to travel between them. TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and Binter Cabo Verde offer regular

flights connecting the main islands.

Ferry Services: Ferries are available for inter-island travel, especially between the islands of

Santiago, Fogo, São Vicente, and Santo Antão. Make sure to check the schedules in advance, as

they may vary.

Shared Taxis: Shared taxis, known as "aluguers," are a common mode of transportation on the

islands. They follow specific routes and can be flagged down along the road. They are usually

affordable and a good option for short distances, not available in every island so please be sure

to ask around to the locals or at the desk of where you are staying.

Rental Cars: Renting a car is a convenient way to explore the islands, especially if you prefer

more flexibility and independence. Car rental agencies can be found at the main airports and

in larger towns.

Local Buses: Local small buses or vans, known as "hiaces," operate on most islands and are an

inexpensive option for getting around. They may not always follow strict schedules, so it's

advisable to check the timetables in advance.

Private Taxis: Private taxis are widely available, particularly in urban areas and near tourist

destinations. Negotiate the fare beforehand or ensure they use a meter for transparency.

Boat Tours: Boat tours are popular in Cabo Verde, allowing you to explore the beautiful

coastline, visit remote beaches, and enjoy water activities such as snorkeling or diving. Many

operators offer boat tours and excursions.

Off-Road Vehicles: On islands like Santo Antão and Boa Vista, off-road vehicles or guided tours

are recommended to explore the more rugged and remote areas.

Walking: Cabo Verde offers stunning landscapes and picturesque towns, making it a great

destination for walking and exploring on foot. Take advantage of guided walking tours or

venture out on your own to discover hidden gems.

Local Advice: Interacting with locals can provide valuable insights into transportation options

and recommendations specific to each island. They can offer tips on the most efficient ways to

get around and lesser-known transportation options.

Remember to plan your transportation in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to

ensure availability and smoother travel experiences.
