Tenpestadi (2024)
Mixed media on canvas (Acrylic and collage)
40" x 60"
available(1690USD)
___
The paintings Tenpestadi and Bonansa were inspired by the historical figure Lady Sarah Forbes Bonetta, an orphaned princess of the Egbado people who was raised under the care of Queen Victoria. Her story deeply resonates with the Cape Verdean experience. Though we are Africans, geographically rooted in Africa, we grow up influenced by European traditions—shaping our food, our cutlery, and even our way of thinking and governance.
This duality reflects the tempestuous journey of forging an identity, as well as the profound and bountiful feeling of truly knowing who you are.

Kura\ Healing (2023)
Mixed media on canvas (Acrylic and collage) 39" x 39"
available (1040usd)
Healing takes time. The healing process feels like a rebirth, you have to deconstruct a lot, you got to talk to, comfort, nurture, and raise your inner child. Healing takes a village sometimes, a group of family/friends, a safety net. Healing is hard, but, in the end, it gives us peace.

Trauma (2023)
Mixed media on canvas (Acrylic and collage)
39" x 39"
available (1040usd)
Trauma puts us in a cage. Trauma touches us, leaves scars in our brains, and, when unhealed, is a source of shame. If we let it, it will drown us and, it will become the only thing we can see or feel. It might blind us to blessings and rob our joy.
Please stop, feel the ground, stop, and breathe.

Faka o Folha (2023)
Mixed media on canvas (Acrylic, spray, and empty pill cases)
28" x 40"
available\ disponível (910usd)
Inspired by the strength of cape verdean women, Faka o folha (Knife or food) speaks to survival in a dry, desert-like land. In the face of scarcity and hardship, we continue to move forward, always. Like the unbreakable trees in our arid climate, we stand firm and we work with what we have, relying on our hands, our creativity, our will.
This work is a tribute to that resilience, rooted in necessity, but blooming in dignity.

Labuta (2020)
Acrylicon canvas
36" x 48"
available\ disponível (806usd)
Labuta (Struggle), is a celebration of resilience and the beauty that can rise from frustration and change. Just like life, the painting took many turns: unexpected, difficult, but ultimately meaningful. It’s a reminder that even when things don't go as planned, we can still create something we're proud of.
